The Shelter is located at a corner of the capital town 'Port Blair' touching the sea. The Shelter overlooks the scenic beauty of Chatham Saw Mill on the left, Mount Harriet Mountains at the centre and North Bay or Coral Island on the right. Also you get a glimpse of tip of Ross Island.
The sea in front of The Shelter, Port Blair, Andaman Islands, is busy with frequent boats and ships going to and coming from various islands like Neil Island, Havelock Island, Ross Island, Viper Island, North Bay Island and Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakhapatanam.
If the sky is clear then you can spot the Neil Island and Havelock Island at a distance.
The famous tourist spots nearby are (we have not used a gauge to measure the distances):
- Cellular Jail, Light and Sound Show (600 meters)
- Water Sports Complex (500 meters)
- Jetty to Ross Island, Viper Island and North Bay Island or Coral Island (500 meters)
- Marina Park, Marina Beach (600 meters)
- Marine Museum (600 meters)
- Clock Tower or Ghanta Ghar and Market Area (700 meters)
- Phoenix Bay Jetty to Neil Island, Havelock Island (2000 meters)
- Airport (3500 meter)
So if you love walking then you are saving Re 1 every 2 meters (except airport and jetty). We can see you like it…
The rooms at The Shelter are designed for the comfort more than luxury. The rooms are value for money and if you looking for nothing but the luxury we suggest you to walk on.
The Shelter has an in-house kitchen with a very good cook and we serve the meals on request in the dining area. We can prepare Vegetarian, Jain meal, Chicken, Fish, Prawn, Crab, and other sea food.
The Shelter has only 6 rooms; we named 2 of them as “Honeymoon Suite” which is having a open sea private balcony, and remaining 4 as “Deluxe Rooms”. 2 Deluxe Rooms have balcony which is not direct sea facing but one can get a side view of the sea. The other 2 Deluxe Rooms are bigger and ideal for a family, they have no balcony.
The Shelter has a common big balcony which is open to sea. This sea facing common balcony would not discriminate you with room type you are staying in. All are welcome.
The Shelter too has an open sea terrace which is covered to protect you from the rain and sun. We have placed a table tennis table for you to enjoy and if you are an expert player, don’t forget to challenge Mr Yogesh, our beloved owner and defeat him to win a coffee from the house (on a lighter note).
